Off by default, which keeps the conversion entirely offline. Images embedded as data URIs always work; images referenced by a path on disk never can, because the browser only receives the markdown text.

The PDF is produced by your browser's own print engine, so the text stays selectable and searchable rather than being flattened into an image. The page above renders in a sealed light-mode document of its own — switching this site to dark mode does not change a single colour in the export. Page numbers come from your print dialog's Headers and footers option. Browsers give no way to write a PDF to disk without that dialog, which is why separate PDFs need one confirmation each — the file name is filled in for you.
